What is a Court Stenographer?
Court stenographer, or to be called as court reporter, means a job working during court proceedings, recording all transcription of the events that are occurring during the legal process in a courtroom.
Judicial officials rely heavily on court stenographers for retrieving official information needed in cases. Some court stenographers may also work at special government events, carefully recording all the proceedings. Court stenographers are also called upon to type for closed-captioned television.
As a court stenographer, your job entails that you document transcripts pertaining to various conversations, speeches, legal proceedings and other legal events held in the courts. These transcripts form an indispensable part of the judicial proceedings.
These written transcripts are required for correspondence as records, legal proofs, etc. and these vital documents are generated and provided by the court reporters. It is the court reporter’s responsibility to generate complete, verbatim and accurate legal records.
Apart from documenting and providing legal transcripts, there is more to the job as a court stenographer.
Many courts require court stenographers to assist the trial attorneys and judges by helping to organize and search for information from the official records and also are approached for suggestions regarding the courtroom procedure and administration.
Court stenographers also have the responsibility of providing the deaf and the hard-of-hearing with closed captioning and real time translating facilities.
